A step-by-step guide on how to install Ubuntu on VirtualBox on a Windows PC
Download and install VirtualBox on your Windows PC by going to the VirtualBox website and selecting the appropriate package for your host operating system. Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation. Download the Ubuntu ISO image from the Ubuntu website. Choose the version that you want to install. Check whether your PC supports virtualization by entering the BIOS menu.
Restart your computer and press the key to enter the BIOS setup. Look for an option related to virtualization, such as Intel VT-x or AMD-V. If you cannot find this option, your PC may not support virtualization. Open VirtualBox and click on the "New" button to create a new virtual machine. Give your virtual machine a name and select the type as "Linux" and version as "Ubuntu (64-bit)". Choose the amount of RAM to allocate to the virtual machine. It is recommended to stay within the green field to ensure optimal performance.
Select "Create a virtual hard disk now" and click "Create" to create a new virtual hard disk for the virtual machine. Choose the type of virtual hard disk file you want to create. It is recommended to select "VDI" (VirtualBox Disk Image). Choose the type of storage allocation you want to use for the virtual hard disk. It is recommended to use "Dynamically allocated" to save space on your host hard disk. Allocate the amount of hard disk space you want to assign to the virtual hard disk. It is recommended to allocate at least 20 GB for the Ubuntu installation. Go to the "Settings" of the virtual machine and navigate to the "System" tab. Under the "Processor" tab, ensure that the "Enable PAE/NX" option is checked.
Under the "Display" tab, increase the "Video Memory" to the maximum value. Add Ubuntu ISO: Under the "Storage" tab, add the Ubuntu ISO file you downloaded earlier as the optical drive. Click on the "Empty" optical drive and then click on the disk icon next to "Optical Drive." Select the Ubuntu ISO file, and click "OK." Install Ubuntu: Start the virtual machine and select the language you want to use. Choose "Install Ubuntu" or "Try Ubuntu" to run the operating system from the ISO file. Follow the prompts to set your preferences, and then choose the "Something else" option for the installation type.
Create a new partition table, and then create a partition for the root file system. Create a second partition for the swap area, and a third partition for the EFI system partition. Install the OS on the root file system partition. Install Guest Additions: Once the installation is complete, restart the virtual machine. As the OS is booting, go to the "Devices" menu in VirtualBox and select "Insert Guest Additions CD image." Once you have booted into Ubuntu, open the CD image and run the software.
That's it! You have successfully
installed Ubuntu on VirtualBox on a Windows PC. Remember to allocate enough
resources to the virtual machine to ensure it runs smoothly.
